Hassan turned director with this movie and it had a list
of heavyweights from Hindi like Shahrukh Khan, dream girl
Hema Malini and Rani Mukherjee. The movie sought to discuss
the controversial theme of
Mahatma
Gandhi’s assassination. It talked
about a fictitious and aborted attempt before the real one.
Through the movie, he spoke of the Gandhian values and the
savage Partition of the country. It was told in the backdrop
of a gentle romance and deep Hindu-Muslim friendship. The
movie was submitted for the Oscars but was not selected.
