Sathyaraj has been recently involved in a movie "Iyyer IPS", in which he has a dual role, one of a honest police officer and other a mob boss. In order to differentiate between the characters, the mob boss character has been given the costume of a old man with dark skin and white moustache and bald head.

Some of the activists movement of a particular cast, thought that the character resembled one of the famous leader Kamaraj in Indian history and decided among themselves that Sathyaraj is making fun of the leader.

Some 200 of the cast members went on a riot in front of Sathyaraj's house and began to involve in violence. Sathyaraj came out of his house and suppressed the crowd saying that he did not make fun of the leader, and the character which he plays in the movie was not intended to coincide with the leader as well. He also told the crowd that he too respected Kamaraj and would never ever like to make fun of him. On hearing this the crowd departed the scene.

Later Sathyaraj had a meeting with the press and requested them not to let out false news such as the one led to the incident. He said that it affected much of the actors lives when faced with similar problems.
