This
film was completed in a record
period of 12 days, which may
earn it a place in ‘The
Guinness Book of Records’.
Produced by Suresh Joachim
Entertainment Inc; and directed
by V. Krishnamurthi and starring
Suresh Joachim, Meera Jasmine,
Suman, Rajiv, Vivek, Bose
Venkat and others, this movie
has Vairamuthu penning all
the lyrics and Deva composing
music. There are five songs
in the album. One song, ‘kanavu
kaangiren’ has Praveena
singing it and Sheila acting
it – both are visually
challenged!

Balasubramaniam
You’ve got to hand it
to SPB! What amazing lung
power at 60! This song is
bound to bring a warm glow
to any Tamilian worth his
salt. Passionate lyrics and
equally passionate rendering,
though the tune is so-so.
Has a bit of rap in the middle.
Watch how the strings and
tabla blend so easily with
the rhythm before the second
charanam.

Kanavu Kangiren---
Vocals: Praveena
A fine debut for Praveena here. A song that
overflows with pacific sentiments and the
soft keyboard notes and gentle rhythms reinforce
the mood. But one wish Deva had chosen his
beats to go more smoothly with the natural
cadence of the lyrics.
Kadhal Thaandi---
Vocals: Haricharan, Chinmayi
This song has to be relished singularly
for its lyrics. Of course, the flute, guitar
and the cheery hand-clap rhythms all add
vigor to the number fashioned on the Natabairavi
raga. Haricharan is as silky as ever, but
Chinmayee sounds nasal and indistinct in
the higher octave. Could make it to the
charts for awhile.
Unarcchigalai Vazhavidu---
Vocals: Srikant Deva, Suchitra
The mandatory dance number, but slightly
different from the usual Deva-style ‘kuthu
paattu’. Again conceived on the Natabairavi
scale. Suchitra is pleasing. You hear a
bit of trombone here and there. Oddly, you
seem to recall ‘Taxi, Taxi’
often.
Porkkalathil
Kadhal---
Vocals: Suresh Joachim,
Vijitha
Oh dear! Suresh’s voice wobbles like
a piece of fresh-set jelly! Vijitha is quite
smooth. Yet another Reethigowla number we
have here after ‘kangal irandaal’.
But the natural melody of the raga is subdued
by the sharp jumpy sangatis! Interesting
music interludes, anyway!
Verdict:
The general reaction to this album could
be ‘Ho hum!’ The high spots
seem to be few and far between. The songs
may take their time to make it to the charts.
