TAMIL MOVIE RELEASE EXPECTATION

Finally, Kamal's ambitious 95 crore project, Vishwaroopam after a row of controversies, is releasing this week.
 

Following immediately on the heels of the much talked about DTH controversy, a new one cropped up as Vishwaroopam was banned in Tamil Nadu for two weeks because certain Muslim groups objected to certain scenes in the film which they felt, portrayed Muslims in an unflattering manner. The state government felt that a law and order problem had to be averted and enforced the ban. Amidst widespread outrage whipped up by fans and supporters of freedom of expression, Kamal Haasan waged and lost a legal battle challenging the ban. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who had spoken in support of the ban, then stepped in and suggested that if Kamal Haasan and representatives of the Muslim groups who had objected to the film could settle their differences amicably, the ban would be lifted. After Kamal Haasan agreed to edit the objectionable scenes, the way was smoothed for him and it was announced that Vishwaroopam will release on February 7^th.

The action spy thriller, directed and produced by Kamal himself has a mix of established and lesser known actors. Andrea and the Indian-American actor Pooja Kumar play the female leads of the movie that has Nassar, Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Zarina Wahab and Jaideep Ahlawat. Musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have done the score for the movie.

Vishwaroopam will also be experimenting with a latest audio technology called Auro 3D for an enhanced audio experience. Vishwaroopam is only the second such movie to be using this technology, the first being the Hollywood film Red Tails.

Produced and directed simultaneously in Hindi as well as Tamil, the movie has been released in Hindi as Vishwaroop. With the postponement in the release of the movie by two weeks due to various legal issues surrounding the movie's supposed anti-Islamic content and the great 'word of mouth' coming from other states and overseas markets, the expectation for the movie has shot up to dizzying levels. Vishwaroopam becomes one of the most eagerly awaited movies in Tamil cinema history. Hence Behindwoods review board revises the expectation meter to 95.
