Crime thriller, especially psychopathic murder films are something we don’t see quite often in Tamil cinema. So there is a considerable amount of scope in exploring in this genre which happens to be the USP of Sawaari. The premise looks very promising and with the renowned production banner Sri Thenandal Films releasing it, Sawaari is expected to be a decent product but is the ride worth your 120 bucks? Read further to know.

Sawaari is written and directed by Guhan Senniappan. This crime thriller features the likes of  Benito Franklin, Karthik Yogi and TM Karthik in pivotal roles. The music department is taken care of by Vishal Chandrasekhar of Jil Jung Juk fame.

The film starts with a murder mystery. The main plot deals with how an Assistant Commissioner of Police is in the pursuit of finding the psycho killer. There is a sub plot of the film that talks about a harmless driver who aims to deliver a car on time from Chennai to Nellore but ends up getting into a tangle.

Though the overall canvas of the film looks decent enough, the cinematographer could have given a little more importance to the angles. There are a lot shakes which are a little disturbing specially during the aerial shots. The Editing is good in most parts.

The first half is pretty engaging while the latter half might give you a few restless moments.  Leaving aside a few flaws and logical loopholes, the script is garnished with adequate amount of thrills. There is a lot of thought that has gone behind the script, but had the makers concentrated a little more on finding the right person for the right role, the overall product would have been much better.

TM Karthik stands out with his performance. His characterization is the biggest plus for the film. He is one of the underrated actors. The director has to be lauded in not being given a typical typecast role for him and extracting his potential to the fullest. Karthik Yogi does a decent job as the car driver.

Vishal Chandrasekhar’s background score is one of the standout points of the film. His music is the soul of Sawaari.

Verdict: Sawaari is a decent movie for the budget in which it was made. Fairly engaging crime thriller!
