Kakka Muttai was an impressive debut for director Manikandan. Will Kuttrame Thandanai turn out to be another feather in his hat? Read more to find out….

Kuttrame Thandanai is the story of how a murder connects the life of various individuals. What impact does it have on the lives of those individuals? Who is the murderer? The answers to these questions form the rest of the movie.

Manikandan spins a plot around a very interesting knot with a defined clarity. With a story that swerves between the happenings of the case and the life of the individuals involved, Kuttrame Thandanai manages to keep us engaged though the screenplay is slow. Certain sequences do raise questions about living fair, but they never seem preachy. The director definitely deserves mention for giving us one of the most realistic portrayals of a common man’s struggle to choose his survival over morality.

The movie might not have too many high tension peaks that one would expect from a movie belonging to this genre. But considering that the treatment is from the perspective of your everyday average individual, Kutrame Thandanai is exceptionally neat.

The cinematography is brilliant. It has the stamp of the photographer Manikandan all over it. The tunnel like vision shots are well executed and we tip our hat to Manikandan for such fine cuts. Ilaiyaraja is undoubtedly one of the biggest strengths of the movie. The Maestro bowls us over with his chilling background score. Isaignani proves that can still give everyone a run for their money when it comes to his work.

The cast is apt enough. Vidharth does what is expected out of him. Aishwarya Rajesh’s role is short and bold, deserves applause. Nasser, Rahman Guru Somasundaram and Pooja Devariya support the story well with their performances.

Editing by Anucharan is smooth. Balaji Gopal's DI coloring is excellent and ensures the color balance always meets the requisite level. The opening title cards are impressive. Designer Vijay has handled it with quite a crafty hand. Although there are no scenes that seem out of place, we wish the pace was a bit faster.

Overall although Kuttrame Thandanai might not make you fervently hold on to your seat with anticipation as to what will happen next, it is definitely a technically strong movie that boasts a handful of ups.

Verdict: Kuttramae Thandanai is a technically sound thriller film
