Hero or comedian, Santhanam scores as a perfect entertainer in his films, and this film is no exception, as it is entirely carried through his charisma and counters. A1 by debutant K.Johnson begins with the character establishment of the heroine's (Tara Alisha) father played by Yatin Karyekar who is displayed as a flawless human being. As odd it seemed in the beginning, this set up later makes sense as it serves as an important element to the thin plot of the film.

As the teasers suggested, the plot is entirely about the love track between Santhanam, who is a jobless, happy-go-lucky guy in the urban poor locality and Tara, who works in an IT company from a conservative family and how they unite overcoming their differences.

Apart from Santhanam, supporting characters including MS Bhaskar and Santhanam's friends (Maren, Kingsley, Tiger Thangadurai) in the film shine in parts with their dumb comedy and slapstick which also create room for more laughable one-liners from Santhanam.

Even though the first half's storyline is very cliché, the second half engages the audience better as it evokes curiosity with the new characters and twists that were introduced to create obstacles for Santhanam and Co. On the technical front, the visuals are functional and delivered what is required for a comedy entertainer. The crisp editing has played a key role in keeping the audience decently engaged in the film.

There is very less scope for Santhosh Narayanan's music as there are back to back dialogues throughout the film. The brief moments of character introductions and the pause of dialogues during Santhanam and Tara's romance is when the music shines. Santhosh's simple Gana tracks used in a few scenes will grow on you. This is easily one of the good music albums in Santhanam's recent films.

On the whole, if you want to watch a film for a good laugh and pass your time stress-free, A1 can be given a try. Keep your thinking hats and logical loops away to enjoy this comedy entertainer with your friends.
