LADIES WHO BUSTED MYTHS!

Women’s Day just passed and it does seem to have been a pretty momentous passing as there have been quite a few developments over the past three days that have hiked the significance of the day. The landmark Women’s reservation bill has just cleared its first hurdle and in cinema, Kathryn Bigelow created history by becoming the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar for The Hurtlocker. So, a couple of days later, we think it is appropriate to acknowledge and celebrate some of the Indian ladies who have successfully broken into this traditional male bastion.

Mira Nair
First Indian woman to have her film nominated at the Oscars (Salaam Bombay), first Indian woman to receive The Golden Lion (The Namesake) and many more firsts belong to this lady. She has been a ground breaker in terms of film making, not just nationally, but also internationally. She was rightly given the Pride of India award by Bollywood in 2007. Also has a few very prestigious projects lined up which includes one with Johnny Depp in the lead.
