This is without doubt the best shot
song in Tamil cinema for 2009. In
fact, it would not be wrong to say
that this is one of the best filmed
songs of the decade. Director Pandiraj
has expertly shown the way of taking
a narration forward through a well
planned sequence of shots in a song.
A simple montage which took us through
the lives of the main characters,
the song, in a span of minutes,
narrates many small incidents which
help the story move forward. ‘Meenakshisundaram’
lifting a Vairamuthu poem and claiming
it to be his creation to ‘Sobikannu’
and the scrap book affair where
the person who made it in the first
place gets it back as a gift show
that the director has done a great
amount of homework to get things
right. And, most of these things
are illustrated to the audience
with minimum dialogues which makes
it even more special. Also, indicating
the change of seasons by showing
clouds moving in the sky (in what
looks like time-lapse photography)
is a cute touch. This is the kind
of imagination and execution that
makes songs look integral to a movie
and we need more like these. |
