SHRINKING TIMES!

When Tamil cinema was unworriedly treading the "commercial" path of story-telling, making the audience watch three-hour ordeals in theatres, newcomers and even veterans have taken keen interest by reducing the time taken to convey the story/ message these days. When critics and analysts were vocal about directors wasting screen time with songs and unwanted comedy scenes, the young blood, which is starting to rule Kollywood, has understood this and is concentrating on limiting the screening time for their movies. We will sample a few movies which maybe called trendsetters in the future.
Unnaipol Oruvan
Chakri Toleti / Unnaipol Oruvan
This one could be one of the shortest Tamil movies we have ever seen. This story about a 'common' man who takes on the Chennai city police to prove a point against the terrorists gained wide-spread appreciation. Though a remake of Hindi movie, A Wednesday, Unnaipol Oruvan had just one song and never once deviate from the main story. With a running time of just 106 minutes (1 hr and 46 mins), UPO was well applauded. The director of the movie, Chakri Toleti, was a debutant.
