SJ Suryah’s Vaali was a departure from the cloying Anna – thambi sentiment that is the norm in Tamil cinema. Here a handicapped man (Ajith) covets his brother’s (Ajith) wife (Simran) and will stop at nothing to possess her. Vaali was a powerful film and Ajith’s wonderful performance made the villainous character tragic and strangely endearing despite the mad stunts he pulled on his poor brother and his wife!
