Kalki (Shruthi) is one of the most memorable characters created by K Balachander in a long line of such characters. Few female protagonists have matched the fieriness of Kalki whether it was standing up for her rights by hurling abuse in the shrillest voice imaginable, getting a deranged, gun – toting miscreant to step down by chatting him up and drawing him into her bosom, getting involved in an affair with her benefactor’s (Geetha) ex – husband (Prakash Raj), bearing his child and then handing the little one over to her friend who will never be able to have one of her own, Kalki cocked a snook at rigid convention and was wild and free as the wind.
