There are two phases in the life
of a man. At most times, actors
go in for a few changes in appearance,
the extent of changes depending
on how far apart in time the two
phases are. In Eeram, Aadhi had
to play a cool college guy and a
young police officer. The roles
demanded him to have a different
body language and attitude –
that of a carefree student and boyfriend
and that of an investigator who
is seriously after the truth. But,
Aadhi did not resort to any kind
of change in appearance or style.
Yet, he was very convincing in both
forms of the character. He seems
to be very good at restrained performances,
underplaying comes naturally to
him.
A handsome young man with a good
job, a beautiful wife and everything
going for him in life. What would
make him turn into a criminal? Why
would he choose to play havoc in
his own life? It is not easy to
be a man of such inexplicable actions
and emotions which cannot be justified
or understood. And, the fact that
this is not the normal villain role
makes it doubly difficult to bring
out all the necessary expressions
without resorting to ‘over
the top’ expressionism or
juke boxing. Nandha did a near perfect
job, his eyes and body language
doing all the talking. It was wonderful
to see a young actor carrying off
such a complex role with élan.
