After heavy delays due to many reasons, Godfather was one of the first batches of films that changed their titles due to the tax sops that were announced by the government for films with titles in Tamil. The title change seemed to do a world of good for the film. Mainly because the title ‘Godfather’ always remains one of the legendary made by Francis Ford Coppola and this had nothing to do with the original Godfather. Eventually, the title Varalaaru was justified by the epoch-making run it had at the box office.
