A couple of years after he had delivered a touching performance in Kaasi, Vikram produced another masterpiece under Bala’s direction. This time he was Vettiyaan, the son of the graveyard who knew nothing of life or civilization; he was just the undertaker. The portrayal of this virtually emotionless human figure who begins to feel things in life after meeting his first and only friend Sakthi was as absorbing and intense as a performance can get. No surprises that the Filmfare Award came his way, even the National Award did.
