Not entirely a period film, Cheran will be taking us back into the 80s for a portion of the story. His skill at handling period themes has been proved in Autograph. Being the 80s does not make the job any easier for the director, the changes that our cities have undergone over the last 20-25 years are sweeping and subtle at the same time. Rolling them back to create the perfect 80s setting is not going to be a cakewalk.
