the birth of comedy genre in Tamil cinema,
Kadhalika Neramillai is a full-length comedy with no usual
elements like villains, fight sequences or sentiments to
turn off the viewer – quite atypical for a movie in
the 1960s. Instead, the movie showcased top-notch performances,
side-splittingly hilarious scenes, and great songs, which
has withstood the test of time and still succeeds in entertaining.
Extraordinary performances by Nagesh and Balaiya elevated
this movie to inaccessible heights. Songs from the movie
like “Ungal ponnaana kaigal”, “Vishwanathan
vellai vendum”, and “Kadhalikka neramillai”
are worth a hum even now.
Takeaway:
Amateur and ambitious director-to-be Nagesh narrates his
horror script to the promising producer Balaiya. While the
script has minimal horror quotient, Nagesh decides to scare
Balaiya by spicing up the narration using his gimmicks.
What follows promises a rip- roaring laughter sequence that
was to be considered as eternal in the world of comedy movies.
