We really don't know how it started but it seems to have become an endemic to the Tamil film industry. Some say Dasavatharam started it all, while others say every one of these stars are fed up of treading the beaten path of playing stereotypical roles. Kamal has always been one who has mastered the art of doing multiple roles in his films. It is the timing of the other actors going in for such multiple role stories that doesn't let us accept it as sheer coincidence.
