A new Gautham Menon film is always cause for excitement, and with him teaming up again with Surya for Varanam Aayiram, we can expect it to rock. Menon returns to his earlier haunt, the U.S.- where he set Vettaiyadu Vilayadu- for a scenario that might begin with Surya studying there. And then returning to India. It is also set in Malaysia, which is now becoming ubiquitous in several new Kollywood movies. What is perhaps more interesting than the foreign locations is its offbeat Indian location: Varanasi, where part of the film is to be shot. Very, very few films, Kollywood or Bollywood, are shot in Varanasi, a place rich in tradition and atmosphere.
