Vairamuthu's Moondram Ulaga Por released

Kalaignar Karunanidhi released Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu’s Moondram Ulaga Por, a book that deals with the earth and its atmosphere, on July 13 at Kamarajar Arangam, Chennai. The day also marked the poet-lyricist and prose writer’s birthday.

Thousands of people from across Tamil Nadu had gathered at the venue to have a glimpse of the book launch and listen to the speakers. Several politicians like Stalin, M Subramanian, Arcot Veerasamy, Gnanadesikan and celebrities from the tinsel town including Kushboo, singers Mahathi, Harini, veena exponent Revathi Krishna among others, made it a point to attend the event.

The association between Karunanidhi and Vairamuthu dates back to more than three decades and this was Vairamuthu’s 16th book that was being released by Karunanidhi. The first copy was received by acclaimed writer Jayakanthan. Actor Kamal Haasan felicitated Vairamuthu and recalled his association with him over the decades.

Vairamuthu received the guests with shawls, cardamom garlands and organic rose flowers. The audience went into raptures when Kamal Haasan was given a red rose sapling which reminded them of his film Sigappu Rojakkal.

Ten readers of the book from across the globe spoke about the way the book appealed to them. Moondram Ulaga Por is a novel that featured in Anandha Vikadan for 40 weeks. The book is about the life of an Indian farmer and the turbulence that he faces amidst today’s global warming and globalisation; it is about the ways in which he encounters his problems. Though set in a local milieu, the novel deals with global happenings. The book’s English translation is expected to be released soon.
