Jaya TV is not a spoilt child

Jaya TV celebrated its 14th anniversary in a grand manner by honoring the most celebrated composer duo in Tamil cinema history – M.S.Viswanathan and T.K.Ramamurthy, in a glittering event titled “Ninaithale Inikkum” at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai yesterday. Many other singers like T.M.Soundara Rajan, P.B.Sreenivas, P.Susheela and S.P.Balasubramaniam were also honored with gold medals. This event turned out to be a celebration of music. A live orchestra by MSV and crew was the icing on the cake.

But, what made the event special was the ‘killer’ star power that adorned the show. Superstar Rajinikanth, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, Isaignani Ilaiyaraja and none other than the CM of the state J.Jayalalitha were among the glowing lights of the show. Vijay, Suriya, Prabhu, Sathyaraj, Sarath Kumar, Suhasini, Ameer, Simran and Cho Ramaswamy were also present.

The crowd burst out in cheers whenever some big star’s name was called out. Chinmayi presented the entire show in impeccable Thamizh.

This event also marked the first time that Jayalalitha was participating in a Jaya TV related event. She conferred the title ‘Isai Chakravarthy’ on M.S.Viswanathan after this title was selected by the people of Tamil Nadu through an extensive survey. Other than this, Ford Fiesta cars were also given as a complimentary gift to the two legends.

The CM also had a hand in the songs that were played by the orchestra as she herself selected her list of favorite MSV songs to be played in the evening.

All the speakers lamented the fact that the Government hasn’t conferred these celebrated composers with any of the Padma awards and the CM firmly asserted that she would do everything in her power to make sure that the Padma award will soon come their way.

All the celebrities were also unanimous in their praise for Jaya TV, the CM and for MSV’s humility. Ilaiyaraja reminisced about his days as a youngster watching the shoots of the movie ‘Vennira Aadai’; he also sang a song to the delight of the crowd.

K.Balachander recalled his experience of working in 34 films with MSV while Kamal Haasan said that Jaya TV was Jayalalitha’s “Chellam Koduthu Valarkaadha Pillai” (a child who isn’t spoilt by too much attention). He also recalled how he took his daughter Shruti to take the blessings of MSV after she returned from her music lessons in the USA.

Rajinikanth as usual won the wholesome applause of the crowd when he said that the CM achieved “Ore Kallula Rendu Maanga” (twin purposes) with this event. He justified this statement saying that the industry got a chance to felicitate the CM while MSV was also deservingly celebrated in the same event.

He said that when he was a conductor in Bangalore even Kannadigas who didn’t know Tamil used to sing MSV’s songs by-heart. He finished off saying that MSV’s popularity would stand the test of time (saaga varam petravar). He also was wholesome in his praise of the CM and his other gurus and seniors in the industry. He also added that he was the junior-most compared to the other stalwarts on the stage.

CM’s speech was filled with details and history. She gave a nice background to the duo and said that she grew up immersed in their music. She proudly said that their period was the golden age of music. She also announced several incentives to the employees of Jaya TV As the last speaker, MSV humbly accepted all the praises and vouched to keep giving better music in the coming years as well.

The evening then saw a live performance of some of the stalwart’s popular songs by an elaborate orchestra. All the stars and dignitaries were witness to this grand spectacle.

On the whole, this was the event with maximum star power in recent times. Grand, would be an understatement!
