The movie, which is a biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was slated to release on April 23, 2021 in theatres but owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date had to be pushed.
With several rumours high in the air regarding the release of this film, the 'Queen' actress took to her Instagram story to refute rumours about the same and said, "No release date has been finalised for Thalaivi yet, please refrain from rumours."
With theatres in Tamil Nadu all set to reopen today (August 23) and several films lined up to release, Kangana took to her Instagram story to confirm that the movie is heading for a theatrical release. She shared tweet by an entertainment news tracker that stated that the movie is heading for a pan-India theatrical release despite being offered record OTT premiere rates.
He also said that after the theatrical release, the Hindi version will hit Netflix and the other versions will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video. However, official information regarding the same is yet to be announced by the makers.
She shared the tweet and said, "Are you ready for Thalaivi?" with a couple of heart emojis.

'Thalaivi' will be released in three languages including Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. The movie, directed by AL Vijay, stars Arvind Swamy in the role of former Tamil Nadu CM MG Ramachandran. Actress Madhoo also plays a pivotal role in the film.
