Director Vetri Maaran's Vada Chennai is one of the long awaited projects that has a very long journey. Having started the works and ideation in 2004 the film has seen many changes, ups and downs, and with things falling into the place at the right moments, the film is now complete and is all set to release on October 17th. In his recent interview with Behindwoods, Vetri Maaran revealed that the initial first cut of Vada Chennai had a long run time of 5.5 hours.
When asked about the progress of the second part's shooting, Vetri Maaran said, "We haven't started to shoot for the second part yet. Actually, we had loads of footages for the first part itself, and my first cut of Vada Chennai had a run time of 5.5 hours. We cut it shorter, shorter, and shorter, and now, the final cut's runtime is a little more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. We have reduced a 5.5 hours film into 2.5 hours film. So, there is that level of scope for writing scenes. This story in itself gives you that freedom and energy.
We definitely have the story ready for the second and third parts, but we haven't shot anything as of now. A very little footage for the second part is there. We will have to plan and shoot for the sequel, based on the audience's response for the first part."
