DARBAR TRAILER BREAKDOWN: THALAIVAR'S 'BAD COP' RETURNS

The trailer introduces the cop Adithya Arunasalam (Rajinikanth) in a suave, gravity-defying fashion. A voiceover describes him as a murderer who hunts down criminals in a ruthless way, as he brandishes a katana and scars enemies in slow-motion. Rajinikanth does the role with a casual attitude, a total deviation from the uptight portrayal in his previous cop films such as Moondru Mugam and Pandian.

Santosh Sivan lights the scenes in style with rich, saturated colours, especially during the scenes involving the film's leading lady Nayanthara. One can surely expect a warm romance between the leads.

The trailer takes a serious turn after the entry of Darbar's villain (played by Suniel Shetty), a man bun-sporting gangster. The trailer showcases all trademark Rajini-isms as the star brings an unusual coolth to his portrayal of a cop. It's assured that this Pongal, one can witness a stylish David vs Goliath clash.
