Ranveer Singh, fresh from the success of Gully Boy, is all set to essay the role of World cup-winning captain Kapil Dev in the sports drama 83, which is based on the journey of the 1983 Indian cricket team that brought the first cricket world cup to the home soil. The film will be directed by Kabir Khan, who had previously helmed blockbusters like 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'Ek tha tiger'.
It is said that due to he pan-Indian presence of the film's theme, 83 will be simultaneously made and released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film also boasts of a pan-Indian star cast that includes popular Tamil actor Jiiva.
The film is slated to release on April 2020. Regarding the technical aspects, 83 will be shot by Aseem Mishra and Rameshwar S. Bhagat will take care of the film's editing department. 83 will be jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala in association with Madhu Mantena, Deepika Padukone and Reliance Entertainment.
