"ACTORS' ASSISTANTS' EXPENSES ARE HUGE"

We have been reporting about the discord between FEFSI and the Producer Council on issues like wages. On this note, producer Suresh Kamatchi shares his thoughts with us.

He says, “I have incurred losses because of the issues in FEFSI. Wages will have to be correctly fixed. FEFSI is like government employment exchange and has many old people. If there are young people in it, there would be many positive changes for wages too.

Of course, this is not an important issue. There are other issues. An actor has 8 assistants and the producer will have to bear the expenses of these 8 assistants. If an actor takes care of expenses related to her/his staff, it would save a lot of money for the producer. Assistants’ demands are more than that of the artists.

If a director introduces a hero and the latter becomes successful, the hero increases his salary for his next with the same director who gave him that hit. Producers are in fact afraid to book a big hero. These days, by and large, big budgeted films end up as losses and small films become hits. D16 and Maanagaram are the genuine hits in the recent times. With fake BO figures, they conduct success meets. These things should change and that’s when the industry will prosper”.
