Kalki's epic five-book series novel - Ponniyin Selvan has been the dream project of many filmmakers over the years. Now, Mani Ratnam is all set in completing this daunting task, as he has already started shooting for this movie long back. This period drama is to have an enthralling cast ensemble.

It was already well known that the movie would release in 2 parts, and that the part 1 shoot is underway. However, according to sources, it has been exclusively learnt that the movie has almost completed the shooting, and planning for a Diwali Release.

However, the Part 2 shoot is expected to wrap up by August and it will be aiming May 2022 release. Talented artists Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Lal, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Riyaz Khan are amongst the many well-known artists who are part of the crew.

Ponniyin Selvan is shot by Ravi Varman while AR Rahman handles the music department. With Sreekar Prasad handling the cuts, Sham Kaushal takes care of the film's action choreography.
