Renowned and legendary Odia actor Bijay Mohanty passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday, July 20 following a prolonged illness reportedly. He was aged 70. He is survived by his wife Tandra Ray who is an actress in the Odia film industry, and daughter Jasmine.
According to family sources, the actor was admitted to hospital in the evening after his condition deteriorated. He was suffering from a heart ailment and underwent treatment at Hyderabad, from where he was brought to Bhubaneswar in a special ambulance last month.
Several took to their social media to mourn the death of the legendary actor. The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik described him as, “CM @Naveen_Odisha has expressed deep grief over the passing away of renowned film actor & director #BijayMohanty. CM said, his death marks the end of an era and has created a deep void in Odia film industry. CM announced that the veteran actor will be cremated with state honours.”
