SOUTH INDIA'S FIRST 70MM LENSMAN K. RAMACHANDRA BABU PASSES AWAY
Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsK. Ramachandra Babu, cinematographer of several acclaimed features such as Allavudeenum Albuthavilakkum, Yavanika and the historical epic Oru Vadakkan Veera Gaadha passed away on Saturday (December 21). The lensman was aged 72.
Ramachandra Babu was the lensman behind Mani Ratnam's first Tamil film, Pagal Nilavu and had also cranked the camera for India's first indigenously shot 70mm film, Padayottam, directed by Jijo Punnose and produced by Navodaya Films.
K. Ramachandra Babu's filmography extends across various Indian languages and was the treasurer of the prestigious Indian Society of Cinematographers (ISC). The veteran's brother, Ravi K. Chandran, is also one of the country's widely regarded cinematographers.
Many of the Indian film industry's leading cinematographers have offered condolences to K. Ramachandra Babu's demise, including P.C. Sreeram and Santosh Sivan among others.
