THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT KAATRU VELIYIDAI

Two video songs ‘Azhagiye’ & ‘Saarattu Vandiyila’ from Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai are out today. When you have names like Mani Ratnam and Ravi Varman attached to it, it is needless to talk about how visually enticing the frames could be. But there are a few things that might have missed your attention.

Azhagiye

The first shot of the video explains that the film is not set in a contemporary timeline. You see a VCR player and a cassette covers the top of it. Video cassette recorder was something that was predominantly used in the 80s and 90s. Plus the television set also looks vintage further confirming the timeframe that we are talking about.

The 1st frame also shows a courier cover. Who sends a video cassette through courier these days? The cover says ‘Leela Abraham, Srinagar General Hospital’. So are we going to see a long distance relationship between VC (Karthi) and Leela (Aditi)? Maybe not since ‘Azhagiye’ is more of a proposal song? Our guess is, VC might have met Leela somewhere else, fallen in love on first sight like we see in most Mani films and maybe that’s when Sarrattu Vandiyila happens just like how Maddy meets Shalini in Alaipayuthey in a marriage. Too much guess work right? But too good to be true.

Saraattu Vandiyila

As for the Saraattu Vandiyila song, we had reported earlier that it is said to be a marriage based number and the two-minute video which was released suggests the same too. It has a woman's baby shower as the major event and both Karthi and Aditi seem to be at their happiest best as they shake their legs for the slow folk number.

Close sources reveal that it could be Karthi's cousin's marriage or baby shower event. Cinematographer Ravi Varman's frames add beauty to this grand number which has Holi colours giving it the pink and orange hues. From what can be observed in the video, Karthi has adapted well to his character and has kept up both his style and Mani Ratnam's class and has pulled off some innocent, likeable reactions.
