In his exclusive interview with us regarding the issues in Mersal, BJP leader H Raja had things to say about Vadivelu's character in the movie too.
Speaking of Vadivelu's character's satire of the state of digital India, saying that nobody in India has any money on them, H Raja said, "The digital India movement started before demonetisation. Not only that, it is helpful in curbing corruption and in other ways. Mocking it influences the public negatively and impedes progress in the society."
He alleged that Vadivelu's dialogue "Naangalaam nakkitrukkom" in this context is "dishonourable". It should be noted that Vadivelu merely gestures this phrase in the movie.

MERSAL 5 DAYS CHENNAI CITY BOX OFFICE - HIGHEST EVER

At the end of the 5 days' opening weekend, Mersal has approximately grossed around 6.86 crores from Chennai City alone. This is a new record as Mersal becomes the 1st film ever to collect 6 crores plus gross from its 1st weekend.
Mersal had close to 680 shows over the weekend in Chennai. PVR and INOX have been temporarily shut down, and the total screen count and collection would be even better had both these multiplexes screened the film. Ticket price increase has helped a great deal, but consequently, the net would be lesser than the gross.
Having said that this is still a massive opening that any filmmaker would dream for and let us hope that Mersal keeps the box office counters ringing.
