DOES CINEMA HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THE SOCIETY?- ACCLAIMED PRODUCER EXPLAINS
Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsG. Dhananjayan has juggled various jobs in the Tamil film industry. Apart from heading his own production company, BOFTA Media Works Pvt. Limited, he is also an avid film writer, columnist and the founder of Blue Ocean Film and Television Academy.
Recently, G. Dhananjayan posted a video regarding the ability of films to reform society. By citing the gruesome cases of assault in recent past, the producer wondered whether films that emphasized on women's safety issues, namely Adangamaru, the Telugu film Temper and its Tamil adaptation Ayogya, had no effect on the perpetrators of such horrific crimes.
Dhananjayan also added that despite taking such significant issues like corruption (Indian, Ramana) farmer's issues (Kaththi), honour killings (Gouravam, Pariyerum Perumal) and the flawed education system (Nanban, Saattai), the messages conveyed by such films and are not taken seriously. But on the contrary, cinema is used as a softer target by criminals to blame for their wrongdoings.
Dhananjayan felt that filmmakers will be motivated to tell stories of social message only if the audience starts following them, but also opined that every film must bear social responsibility. Dhananjayan concluded by saying that change happens only from within the individual, and cinema can only be a prime mover by creating awareness on important social issues.
