Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam was last seen directing the 2018 ensemble crime drama Chekka Chivandha Vaanam, that had featured Arvind Swami, STR, Vijay Sethupathi and Jyothika in crucial roles. The film had a successful run at the box office and was praised for its performances and racy screenplay.
The director is next all set to helm the adaptation of the five-part novella Ponniyin Selvan, written by Kalki. The pre-production work of the movie is at full swing. Produced by Reliance Entertainment and Madras Talkies, the film has a star cast that includes Aishwarya Rai playing one of the leads.
It was recently reported that the Malayalam actor, Jayaram was approached to play the role of Periya Pazhuvettarayar in the film. And two actors turned writers - Siva Ananth and Kumaravel for this film. However, the other actors who are a part of the film, are yet to be known.
Meanwhile here is a recent development regarding the film. Popular star, Chiyaan Vikram has confirmed playing a role in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan. It is speculated that he will be essaying the role of Aditya Karikalan, the eldest son of Sundara Cholan and brother of Arulmozhivarman, who was the empire’s Northern troop commander in Kalki’s epic novel. However, an official update is waited for the same.
If so, Mani Ratnam and Chiyaan Vikram will be seen collaborating for the second time for this project after Raavanan which had featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Prithviraj in the lead apart from Chiyaan.
