Actor Karthik TM responds to MeToo allegations against him

The MeToo movement is getting intense and popular as days pass by. Lyricist Vairamuthu, music director Raghu Dixit, and few other notable celebrities were accused through this movement. Singer Chinmayi is helping the victims come out to speak, sharing their trembling experiences with anonymity.

Vairamuthu had recently denied all these allegations and stated that he is ready to face the issue in the court to prove his honesty. Music director Raghu Dixit came out and apologized for his act, though he added that he did not intend it that way.

Noted theatre and film actor Karthik TM was also one of those names that came out in this MeToo movement. Karthik TM is known for his brief yet interesting roles in films like Deiva Thirumagal, Nanban, Endrendrum Punnagai, Indru Netru Naalai, Sawaari, and the recent Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.

Karthik has now come out with his official statement on the allegations that are made against him. Through his statement, Karthik apologised for his behaviour and said that his intention was not to make any woman uncomfortable.

Karthik's official statement - "Dear all

In the past few days, there have been many messages on social media which have named me as a perpetrator in the #MeToo movement. This message is an apology to those who felt uncomfortable in their interactions with me.

In my personal and professional dealings, I have always been respectful towards women. I sincerely believed that all physical contact or relationships that I had initiated were consensual. Clearly a mistake. I now understand that I may have crossed the line with my overtures in some instances.

I have never intended to make any woman uncomfortable. I have never consciously crossed the line with my behaviour. Though I have strived to step away where the woman concerned was uncomfortable, I understand that I have not been consistent. I apologise unconditionally for the pain and discomfort I have caused to anyone in the course of my interactions with them.

My intention with this message is not to preempt any responsibility or consequences. This #MeToo movement has been a wake-up call to introspect into my attitudes and past conduct. I have worked with several women for decades across industries successfully. I have prided myself on being an ally to the feminist cause. I never set out to make any woman uncomfortable in my presence or by my actions. Since I have never received any negative feedback about my attitude or behavior, I clearly had grown complacent, which was surely my mistake .I should have been more vigilant and realized that some women had been uncomfortable and perhaps not in a position to call me out.

I completely own up to all my mistakes and am willing if need be to apologise in any other relevant forum.

I am committed to reforming and redeeming myself in the future. I continue to support the #MeToo movement and pledge to do my part to making the world safer for women"
