“Had Ramanujan been alive for ten more years, we won’t be talking about Einstein today”

Veteran artist Y Gee Mahendra is doing an important role in Gnana Rajasekaran’s Ramanujan. He shares with behindwoods his thoughts on the film

How did you come on board Ramanujan?

I was contacted directly by director Gnana Rajasekaran since I have already worked with him in PERIYAR.              

How was it to work with Gnana Rajasekaran?

He is very committed to do biopics of great people and brings out the positives in their lives to inspire the present generation. 

What is your role like?

Mine is a straightforward portrayal of a simple person who realized the genius in Ramanujan and was a great pillar of support to him.

I enjoyed doing the role knowing we were recreating history in our own times.

What do you think about the mathematic genius Ramanujan?

Ramanujan a stupendous genius who is unfortunately recognized more abroad than in his homeland.. Also the extreme orthodoxy in those days was a big hindrance to his progress. Had he been alive even another ten years more, we would be talking only about him today and not Einstein and others..!
