Your Short Film could be screened at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival!
Feb 12, 2014 Calling all short film creators! Earlier this week the Toronto International Film Festival announced the launch of the "Short Cuts International" programme, which will premiere later this year at the well-known festival that takes over the city of Toronto each September. In a press release Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the festival, explained the organization's desire "to bring some of the world's finest short films to the audience, industry and media that gather in Toronto every year”, falling in line with TIFF's desire to expand its global reach even further. Till date the festival has only screened Canadian-made shorts in its popular Short Cuts Canada programme. This programme will also mark the start of a monthly screening of international shorts at TIFF's theatre home in Toronto, and programmers for the new initiatives will be announced soon.
The Toronto International Film Festival is now in its 39th year, and is well-known as one of the world's largest public film festivals and most prestigious events of its kind. Many Oscar-winning and notable films have had their world or North American premiere at the festival, including recent successful Indian films English Vinglish, Ship of Theseus and The Lunchbox. TIFF has always been a superior launchpad for new filmmakers, providing them with the chance to showcase their talent to an internationally diverse audience and access to distributors and production companies from around the world. With the recent success of many first -time-feature directors in Tamil cinema who were noticed through their short films, such as Karthik Subbaraj, Nalan Kumarasamy and Balaji Mohan, South India has a clear wealth of film making talent just waiting to be seen. Behindwoods encourages keen aspiring film makers to submit their short creations!
Film makers from around the world are encouraged to submit their original shorts beginning today (February 12), with early bird and late deadlines of May 2 and May 30, respectively.
