Appa, Amma, Anna, Thatha aside…KAMAL IS AN INSPIRATION FOR GENERATIONS!

Pirar Vaada Pala Seyalgal Seithu
Narai Koodi Kizha Paruvam Aethi
Kodung Kootruk Kiraiyena Pin Mayum
Pala Vedikkai Manitharai Pole
Nanum Veezhven Endru Ninaitthayo….

These fantastic lines of Maha Kavi Bharathiyar were enhanced further with the pulsating voice of Kamal Haasan from the movie Mahanadi. Tamil Cinema has been very close to me. From my childhood days till now, I catch up on almost all the movies and music. But lately, the quality of films has been a huge concern. While the industry should thank some established quality directors like Bala, Vetrimaran, Raam, Mysskin, Selvaraghavan, Mani Ratnam and the talented newbies who have shown potential like Karthick Subbaraj, Nalan Kumaraswamy among others, the masala films of some leading heroes and its filmmakers rub strongly in the sore spots of the audience. While it is essential that the producers should get back the money they had invested, what is scary is the trend they seem to stick to. First, it was masala, now it is comedy-horror and tomorrow it could be something else. In this world of never changing routine, comes a man (to some, he is God), whose only routine is the change itself. Yes, Kamal Haasan indeed!

The amount of effort Kamal has put into cinema can never be counted. From bringing in new technologies to being the fore-father of acting to many top heroes and filmmakers of Indian Cinema, Kamal Haasan has always been daring to take the first bullet and sacrificed himself for the sake of Cinema. And even today, he is always learning and in the process teaching the industry of new ways of filmmaking.

While his achievements in Cinema remain unmatched and is a guide to the generations to come, his off-screen persona shows us a “Way to live”. It is very simple:

Be the best at what you do, even if you’re cleaning the bathroom

Speak the truth, irrespective of what harm it may bring

Believe in yourself and it is okay to think you’re the best (Just back it up like Kamal)

“Known is an Ocean, Unknown is a drop”.. Learn, learn and keep learning

Failures are part of life and the only way to encounter them is keep rising above it

Learn how to talk to a woman and it is okay to kiss her

Accept your age and adapt to it

While the entire world is making a right, you should make the left and leave your trail

And being an ardent fan of Kamal, I have tried to do some of it, it is definitely tough, but one last thing Kamal’s Way of life teaches us is

Keep trying and nothing is impossible..

And today, when I look at Kamal Haasan and the other masala stars of the industry, the climax scene of Mahanadi rings a bell in my mind and these words echo along with it:

Pirar Vaada Pala Seyalgal Seithu
Narai Koodi Kizha Paruvam Aethi
Kodung Kootruk Kiraiyena Pin Mayum
Pala Vedikkai Manitharai Pole
Nanum Veezhven Endru Ninaitthayo….
