Jeeva
returns to romance, the genre
with which he began his career.
His cool urban looks and smile
are perfect for the lover boy
kind of roles. Now comes Siva
Manasula Sakthi, which we are
told by the production team,
is a no frills love story set
entirely in Chennai carrying
characters that will be instantly
identifiable by the youth of
the city. No wonder they were
so insistent on getting the
film into theaters for Valentine’s
Day, what better timing for
a story |

that rides on nothing but love. SMS marks
the entry of publishing veterans Vikatan
into movies under the Vikatan Talkies banner.
Siva Manasula Sakthi (SMS, very interesting
and attractive contraction, the medium that
has taken over the role of Cupid) is about
a guy and a girl, normal ordinary youth
of Chennai who fall in love with each other.
Besides their love, their egos too play
a big part in the movie. We are not sure
whether their egos will be king size enough
to make the movie fit to be tagged as a
‘battle of the sexes’ flick,
but there have been enough hints in the
promos that suggest a few games of cat and
mouse.
Jeeva plays a Chennai dude, so expect all
those familiar whacky connotations, unique
male bonding lingo and many other features
about Chennai Tamil. This kind of role must
have come naturally to Jeeva; should have
been a rather easy outing for him. Anuya
makes her debut as heroine, but she has
managed to come off looking pretty seasoned
in the trailers. Urvasi plays Jeeva’s
mother and Santhanam is there to tickle
your funny bone. Shot entirely in Chennai
with the exception of 2 songs, SMS should
be the simple story of a boy and a girl
who realize that they are in love. There
will be nothing spectacular. But there is
something about these cute and sweet love
stories that makes the prime candidates
for being dark horses at the box office.
If debutante director M. Rajesh (former
assistant of S.A. Chandrashekhar) has got
the balance right, then this might be another
Valentine’s Day success story. |
