In all there are five movies - two each from
Kollywood and Bollywood, and one from Hollywood.
First let’s check the imported item, Eddy
Murphy’s Norbit. Eddy Murphy is very famous
in India and he is back to his nutty professor
mood as he not just plays the geeky Norbit but
also as his fat and pesky wife. Believe me, this
comedy is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some
may love it, while some may hate it outright.
Given its late entry to the Chennai theatres from
its Hollywood premiere, it is obvious that the
movie is sure to face an uphill task of finding
its audience.
Next in line is a Hindi release “Aggar.”
The movie was released two weeks ago in other
states. Wonder why this discrimination where Tamil
Nadu is concerned! Still this Tussar Kapoor, Udita
Goswami and Shreyas Talpede thriller is said to
be good which makes me say, it’s better
late than never.
Now, the first of the two Tamil release this
week, Ashwin Shekar’s debut film, Vegam.
The actor is the son of actor-cum-politician,
S.Ve. Shekar. The movie is inspired from the cult
hit “Cellular.” A heart pounding,
thrill a minute joyride, which is sure to enthrall
the audience. Ashwin Shekar is well-supported
by his father S.Ve. Shekar, Archana, Prabhu and
Kushboo. We wish the team all the best.
Now, the last two. After a serious thought, I
have decided to talk next about Johnny Gaddar,
the second Hindi release this week. JG is not
your usual movie, which is evident from the slick
promos and the stylish posters. The movie is directed
by Sriram Raghavan who gave the very impressive
“Ek Hasina Thi.” It seems Sriram Raghavan
is a big fan of the Hollywood director Quantin
Tarantino, as both his promos and stills bear
strong resemblance to one of his works. JG also
has a superb soundtrack, courtesy Shankar, Ehsaan
and Loy, which played vital part in increasing
the hype. Let’s see what this desi Quantin
has come up with.
It’s time now to announce the pick of the
week. And you guessed it right!
Behindwoods.com, pick of the week is
Malaikottai
Everything seems right about this Tamil biggie,
Malaikottai. Director, Boopathy Pandian is back
after his successful “Thiruvilayadal Aarambam”
and fans are eager to see what he has in store
this time around. The hero, Vishal, has a bigger
fan base and is also titled Puratchi Thalapathi
by his fans. Added to this, another interesting
factor that counts is that the actor has attempted
a comic role for the first time. Priyamani, the
heroine of the movie, flying high after her performance
in this year’s blockbuster Paruthiveeran
is not just gaining awards but also fame both
in India and abroad. Everyone will like to see
how the heroine fares in a glamorous role. The
promos have increased the expectations too; the
producers have left no stones unturned in promoting
this comedy-action movie. Manisharma’s music
has proved to be big asset of this movie. All
these factors will surely ensure a thunderous
opening for Malaikottai. And these factors have
also made me choose this to be the pick of the
week.
Verdict – Entertaining
weekend.
