Twenty-Twenty has taken the wind out of the
sails of the new releases and the older ones that
were poised to gain hit status.
Aggar and Nanhe Jaisalmer, both releases of the
Friday gone by, were swept away in the tide of
the shortest form of cricket. Everyone stayed
home to watch the matches (like the conventional
one day cricket you cannot catch upon a movie
and come back home to watch the second innings,
it's all over in a flash). So everyone preferred
to watch Yuvraj smack six straight sixes rather
than Thushar Kapoor smacking Shreyas Talpade.
The result, a well-made Aggar has turned turtle
(well, almost) while Nahne Jaisalmer was never
in contention. From the previous weeks, the growth
of Dhamaal has been severely cut short while Darling
has got its killer blow.
With the cricket set to end pretty soon these
films might look forward to a revival of sorts
but that looks bleak with four new films releasing
including Priyadarshan's comedy Dhol. Well, these
days when Priyadarshan releases a comedy, a hit
or at least an average grosser is taken for granted.
Let's see if he can maintain his perfect record.
