Kiran,
the girl who burst onto the Tamil film screen
in Gemini opposite Vikram is now changing
tack to Telugu. Though she had a great debut
with Gemini, she couldn’t sustain
the success for long and after a string
of disappointing films got reduced to the
status of a item number girl and soon found
herself sidelined.
It
was only recently that she managed
to make a minor comeback with an item
number in Thimuru. But that too went
unnoticed. Now she has reportedly
sizzled in Kasthooriraja’s Idhu
Kadhal Varum Paruvam which is widely
expected to fuel her bid for a strong
revival. It is in the midst of this
that the news of her move to Telugu
has come.
She has been booked for a film titled
Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw which will
admittedly be a remake of Priyadarshan’s
Hindi flick Malaamal Weekly. She will
be seen opposite Rajendra Prasad and
the rest of the cast includes Rishi,
Farzana and others.
The
movie for which shooting has almost been
completed has been directed by Nidhi Prasad
and produced by Silver Screen. The reason
behind Kiran’s decision to take up
a Telugu movie is not immediately evident.
One might think that she was feeling insecure
about her chances in the Tamil industry.
One also feels that a wait till the release
of the Kasthooriraja’s film might
have been appropriate. But then Kiran would
have considered it unwise to waste an opportunity
and registered herself with the Telugu audience.
Maybe we should not read too much into this.
