VV – pouring profits and losing producer
Sep 02, 2006
It may sound a little surprising even to the producer Manickam Narayanan. But it is an astonishing fact that Vettaiyadu Vilayadu is turning to be a huge success. Narayanan is elated with the kind of collections Vettaiyadu Vilayadu has managed to make in the first week of its release, but is that just enough?
Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu

Narayanan decided to take up the movie after it ended up in cans with issues related to finance. He states that he wanted to save Khaja Moideen from his financial crisis and that he felt the movie has substance in it and a good movie should not be abandoned. With Narayanan’s taking over, the crew traveled to US on October 24 of 2005 for the shoots.

That was just the beginning of the trouble. When the movie is all set for a release, Khaja demanded a settlement for the movie, which he no longer owned.

If that was not enough, he received pressure from other sources for the release of Vijayakanth starrer Perarasu before the release of VV, which eventually made him incur huge losses.

Trouble brewed for 10 months before the movie finally hit the screens. Funnily enough, Narayanan had to hire a standby lawyer to prevent anyone from obtaining a stay order for the movie’s release. Narayanan says that he had no hopes for the movie before its release. He feels that he will not get his investment back for the kind of money he has spent for the release of the movie is way beyond the limits. His only comfort factor about the movie is the cooperation he received from the technicians and the artists.

After all the troubles VV had to endure before its release, hardly anyone sustained any expectations about the release of the movie as it happens with movies under production for a long time. VV managed to attract crowds to halls with the sheer magic of the fast paced screenplay, the star cast and obviously direction.

VV’s success can well be attributed to the ‘word of mouth’ phenomenon. While the media reviews suggested a mixed platter, VV managed to pick up collections merely with the public’s opinion. It is also another instance to substantiate the acting prowess of a versatile artist named Kamal.

Every one who belonged to the crew of VV seems to be in high spirits after the upbeat collection reports. It is bash time finally for them after a terrible phase. Narayanan, we sincerely hope will let out a sigh of relief with the success.
