This film is based on a novel written by the chief minister with the same name drawing inspiration from Maxim Gorkey's Mother. Thaai Kaviyam has Kushboo playing mother to Pa.Vijay. Initially Radhika was approached for this role but later on Kushboo was finalized. The highlight of the film is said to be an eight minute non-stop dialogue which will be spoken by the hero. As per the crew, this incessant speech of Pa.Vijay would definitely earn him accolades. It was also reported that a distributor has come forward and booked the film for fifty lakhs for Trichy, Tanjore area.
