With
the success of dubbed Tamil, Malayalam,
and Hindi movies in Telugu, the business
of original Telugu movies had seen a considerable
loss in revenue.
To
salvage the plummeting income of Telugu
movies and to discuss on the steps
to be adopted, the Telugu Producers
Council has convened a meeting in
Hyderabad on Monday, 23/10/06.
Large number of producers participated
in the meet requested for a ban of
dubbing movies in Telugu to save the
industry. It was also stated that
since many Telugu producers have bought
the rights of recent hit movies in
Tamil and other languages, the ban
could be delayed for a while till
the movies are released in Telugu.
However, after deliberations it was
decided not to entirely ban the dubbing
movies but to impose heavy taxes on
such movies.
Sivaji’s
Telugu rights have already been purchased
at a whopping price by noted Telugu producer
Prasad and many other Tamil movies are
all set to release in Telugu soon. Only
after the taxes are announced by the Council,
that the impact they have on the dubbed
movies will be known.
