Remake
of Rajini’s old hits – who’ll
fit the bill?
Oct

Old
wine in spanking new bottle. The recent
trend in Hindi movies is to remake the hits
of olden times. Ramgopal Varma started off
this fashion by announcing his remake of
the 70s hit Sholey, which had Amitabh, Dharmendra,
Hemamalini, and Jaya Bachan in the lead.
The movie is considered to be an immortal
piece of work and the screenplay and songs
of the movie are still considered masterpieces.
Sholey is being remade with Abhishek and
Mohanlal in the lead.
Don
directed by Farhan Akthar starring
Sharukh, Kareena, and Priyanka in
the lead, Umrao Jaan starring Aishwarya
Rai and Abhisekh Bachan are the other
remake movies of the old hits, which
are under production. As a prelude
and to test the market value of these
movies, Varma recently released his
Shiva – remake of the hit movie
by the same name from the 80s –,
which stumbled at the box office and
went off in a jiffy.
News is that following the trend in
Hindi, old hit movies in Tamil are
planning to be remade. Initially Thee
and Billa, smash hits of late 70s,
which had Rajini in the lead will
be recreated. Incidentally, these
movies are considered to be the milestones
of Rajini’s career.
Thee
and Billa are remakes of Hindi hits Deewar
and Don respectively. The movies will
be produced by Sujatha Cine Creations
by Balaji’s son Suresh Balaji and
will star lead stars. Suresh Balaji is
busy these days planning for the shoots
of Kireedam with Ajith in the lead.
Here is an interesting contest for the
fans of top young guns. Let us know your
preference of stars for the remakes of
the above two Rajini movies. Who would
you prefer to be cast in these movies
and who would fit perfectly the role of
Rajini and other supporting characters?
