Remember
the honey-drenched voice singing out to
your soul in ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’?
It is the voice of Chinmayi, the young
girl who stole many a hearts with her
heart-stirring rendition.
She
is an upcoming playback singer who
is trained in Hindustani as well as
Carnatic music. Amidst the band of
North Indian singers whose non-native
accent brings discordance in the songs,
Chinmayi comes across as a welcome
breather. She has the capacity to
mouth Tamil words perfectly. Perhaps
this quality of hers has earned her
the dubbing chance for Bhumika in
Sillunnu Oru Kaadal.
Director Krishna had tried many dubbing
artists but in vain. He wanted a fresh
voice for Bhumika, which has not been
tried hitherto. Finally, it was Chinmayi’s
voice that suited Bhumika’s
profile perfectly and it proved to
be a success too.
But
for Chinmayi, offers for dubbing are pouring
right, left and centre and the girl is
not a bit impressed with them. She is
a trained singer and likes to scale greater
heights in singing only. Secondly, dubbing
is not economically lucrative when compared
to play back singing and more so dubbing
artists are never given their dues. We
only hope and wish Chinmayi that she gets
what she wants.
