Ironically, almost 80% of them are masala movies
aimed to satisfy all section of the crowd.
Agra
This movie is full of debutants right from the
director to the star cast. Agra, though not marketed
properly to attract the attention of the moviegoers,
could attract the frontbenchers due to its hot
posters pasted all round the city. The story is
all about the love that develops between the hero
and heroine near Taj Mahal. The movie is not expected
to get a huge reception and I recommend you to
wait for the reviews before venturing into the
theatres.
Why you should see it: Because the producer and
the director were bold enough to release the film
along with the biggies this Deepavali.
Why you shouldn’t: Do many know that the
movie has released?
Azhagiya Tamizh Magan
“Vijay doing something different?! That
should be interesting,” said everyone. ATM
also happens to be Vijay’s first dual role
movie. Sivaji-fame Shriya being his arm candy
just added more glamour. One of the biggest movies
of this season has everything going in favor of
it. Excellent songs from A.R. Rahman added yet
another feather to its cap. This will translate
into big numbers at the ticket counters.
Why you should see it: Because you loved the
music of the movie and you are a big fan of Vijay.
Why you shouldn’t: First time director
with such big name usually doesn’t impress.
And you have seen negative reviews in the media.
Machakkaran
Jeevan is back with his next movie Machakkaran
and the female lead is the beautiful Kamna Jetmalani.
Jeevan, completing his hat trick with Naan Avan
Illai, has cut a niche for himself. Will the crowd
accept him in his second movie as a full-fledged
hero with little to no shades of grey? Lets hope
for the best.
Why you should see it: Because Jeevan selects
his movies with care so you trust his judgment.
Why you shouldn’t: Because you are not
a big fan of Jeevan
Vel
Vel, directed by Hari, has the successful lead
pair of Gajini - Surya and Asin. Hari-Surya combination
gave an average Aaru, so when the team came back
together the buzz was far from positive. Surya
is again doing double-action after Perazhagan.
Vel is a masala treat as Hari’s movies always
gives that in huge portions.
Why you should see it: Because you want to see
Surya back with Asin again, and the trailers also
were very impressive.
Why you shouldn’t: You want to see something
logical and you didn’t like the songs.
Saawariya
The star director is back with two wannabe stars.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, said to be the most talented
director in Bollywood, is back with Saawariya,
a simple love story. The ace director has burdened
the acting responsibilities on two debutants,
Rishi Kapoor’s son Ranbir Kapoor and Anil
Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor. Will Sanjay
be successful in bringing the ultimate love story?
We will have to wait for more on that. Until then
the cash registers would keep on ringing, as the
hype surrounding this movie is very high. And
this is the first movie that was produced by the
Hollywood production house Columbia Tristar.
Why you should see it: Because you are a big
fan of the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and
want to see how Ranbir has performed.
Why you shouldn’t: You are not ready to
see Ranbir play with his towel.
Polladhavan
Polladhavan, directed by a newcomer, features
Dhanush and Kuthu-fame Ramya. Early reviews state
that this movie will surely revive Dhanush’s
career. Polladhavan is a serious movie and is
pretty dark. So people who dislike dark and violent
movies should probably think of some other alternative.
Overall, a good movie.
Why you should see it: Because the music is good
and you want to know what Dhanush has to offer
his fans.
Why you shouldn’t: You’re not that
much of a dark film lover or a Dhanush fan.
Kannaamoochi Enadaa
Priya V. is back after giving us the much-liked
Kanda Naal Mudhal and people love to see what
she has come up with this time around. I have
seen the movie, so I prefer to make this a preview
rather than a review. Still the hype is pretty
positive and the reviews are very good. Prithviraj
and Sathyaraj have done a brilliant job together.
Why you should see it: You loved Kanda Naal Mudhal
and want to see what Priya has cooked this time
around (and enjoy it too).
Why you shouldn’t: You want something
Dishoom Dishoom as its Deepavali time.
Now for the Behindwoods.com pick of the
week:
Om Shanthi Om
The biggest of the biggies has finally arrived.
The hype of Om Shanthi Om can be compared only
with Sivaji (OSO can’t beat Sivaji though.
Rajini rules, ok I guess I should try and be more
unbiased…still Rajini rules). Farah Khan
is back with her favorite actor Sharukh Khan and
super model Deepika Padukone. Music by Vishal-Shekar
is very popular, which has added to the hype.
Shahkukh’s home production is taking care
of the production and has left no stones unturned
in the marketing department. The movie is sure
to become a big hit as people who have seen it
are giving glowing reviews. Farah and Shahrukh’s
last film together was the entertaining Mein Hoon
Na, which was a take on the 80’s masala
movie and now they have decided to bring the 70’s
on screen. Will they be able to give us another
entertaining movie? Lets wait and see.
Why you should see it: Because Shahkukh Khan
is the hero.
Why you shouldn’t: Because you don’t
understand Hindi.
Verdict – Enjoy this masala
Deepavali!
