Fan Clubs in the lurch
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
November 06, 2007
Fans of stars, thronging the theatres to catch a glimpse of their favorite matinee idols, are in for a shock. But the general public is in for a treat this time as the Theatre Owners Association of Tiruppur, presided over by its chairman Easwaran, has decided, based on previous unpleasant experiences, not to issue tickets to fan clubs.
Fans of Stars

This has come as a blessing in disguise to the general public who are more often than not denied tickets for the first few days of festive releases, owing to bulk booking of tickets by fan clubs and associations. This decision was unanimous, as most big releases have tickets for the first few shows blocked by fan clubs, which are being sold to the general public for sky-high prices. Moreover, family audiences avoid going to theatres resulting in an indirect surge in the pirated VCD market.

This seems to have found patronage even among the Coimbatore Theatre Owners Association, who have decided to implement this decision from Pongal onwards as they have already issued tickets to fan clubs. A welcome move indeed! As to the reaction of fan clubs, it is yet to be seen. Wish a similar rule were enforced in Chennai.
