This has come as a blessing in disguise to the
general public who are more often than not denied
tickets for the first few days of festive releases,
owing to bulk booking of tickets by fan clubs
and associations. This decision was unanimous,
as most big releases have tickets for the first
few shows blocked by fan clubs, which are being
sold to the general public for sky-high prices.
Moreover, family audiences avoid going to theatres
resulting in an indirect surge in the pirated
VCD market.
This seems to have found patronage even among
the Coimbatore Theatre Owners Association, who
have decided to implement this decision from Pongal
onwards as they have already issued tickets to
fan clubs. A welcome move indeed! As to the reaction
of fan clubs, it is yet to be seen. Wish a similar
rule were enforced in Chennai.
