Censor
surprised over Rajini’s support for
Kadhal Arangam

Velu Prabhakaran’s Kadal Arangam
is recently in news for lots of unfortunate
reasons. The movie encountered heavy
financial crisis during its production
and – it is reported that –
upon Rajini’s intervention was
saved from the trouble. Velu quoted
the same in one of his interviews
to the tabloids and stated that his
movie would not have seen the light
of the day had Rajini not intervened.
The
movie is now being given a cold shoulder by the censor
officials. The officials, after two rounds of examination
declared that the movie is not fit for viewing by general
public and release in the theatres if a few objectionable
scenes were not cut. However, Velu is aggressive and
has now taken the subject to the Delhi tribunal for
reevaluation.
In
the meanwhile, a censor board official – in one
of her interviews – to a Tamil weekly stated that
the movie has obscene intercourse and even full frontal
nude scenes, which they considered was inappropriate
for public viewing. Velu makes it appear as if the movie
is based on principles of Periyar. On the other hand,
we fear the movie will spark public unrest and controversies
if it was released without the recommended cuts, the
official stated. We are even surprised as to how Rajini
has extended his support for the movie.
We
are sure that Rajini had not heard the story and did
not have an idea of Velu’s plan to sell an obscene
movie under the Periyar tagline, the official further
stated.
However,
Velu has a totally different perspective for his scenes.
He stated that he is a socially responsible citizen
and his skin show is only to create an awakening among
the public since sex offenses against women forms
a major chunk of the crime. He further stated that
he wants women to attain physical freedom. We do not
know what he means by that though.
Whatever
be the reason, the director and the Censor Board have
taken to the streets indulging in public fighting.
Time will tell as to who was right. Stay tuned for
updates.
