No matter how hard Mani kept the secrets,
media spilled the beans about his upcoming
mega venture Guru that it is based on the
life of Ambani family. Well, as the old
adage goes, there is no smoke without fire.
Now it appears that since the movie is on
the verge of completion, Mukesh Ambani,
the elder son of Dhirubai wants the movie
to be screened for him on a special show
before it hit the theatres. Just to be assured
that there are no controversies in the movie
that would slander the tycoon family’s
reputation.
Earlier,
Mani faced the same dilemma when Pal
Thackrey demanded the movie Bombay
to be shown to him before it was released
in the theatres. The current Déjà
vu may not put Maniratnam in an embarrassing
situation. It is assumed that Guru
does not deal with any controversial
aspects about the family since the
Bachchan family is close to the Ambani
family. If you might remember, Chotta
Bachchan Abhishek plays Dhirubai in
Guru and Aishwarya plays Kokilaben.
Madhavan, Vidya Balan, and Arya Babbar
also play important roles in Guru.
The movie shows Abhishek and Aishwarya
as having twins as opposed to the
real life of Ambanis.
On
the other hand, the controversial book on
the Ambani family The Polyester Prince:
The Rise of Dhirubhai Ambani written by
Hamish McDonald was not allowed to be released
in India by the family for its content.
Which means the Ambanis may not take it
light for any controversial portrayals.
Is Mani heading for the toughest task?
